Macael Awards 2004

Last 19 November, the Provincial Association of Businessmen of Marble of Macael awarded the prizes of Comarca of Macael in its XX edition. In this photo-report we present the images of the works rewarded in the different categories.

AWARD TO THE ARCHITECT

Architect: José Ángel Rodrigo García
Imagess: Comercial Centre la Verónica, Antequera (Málaga)

AWARD FOR PROJECT IN SPAIN

Project: Palace of Fairs and Congresses in Malaga. Promoted by the Malaga Town Hall and built by Mercantil Necso. Architect- Angel Asenjo.
Materials used: more than 25.000 sq metres of yellow, brown and green marble, and more than 10.000 sq metres of cladding, with walls of forms and images with different finishes, and washbasins made directly from the marble block with which the tops were made.

AWARD TO THE PROMOTER

PROMOTORA DIZU, S.L. For the systematic use of Macael marble in its developments, an example being the Plaza Mayor of Huercal Overa. The public square has a surface of 3000 sq metres, and 5000 sq metres of Red Travertine, 2000 sq metres of Blanco Macael have been used in the pedestals in interiors and common areas of stairways and 13000 sq metres of Crema in the flooring of the houses.

AWARD TO THE CONSTRUCTOR

Fadesa Group for the use of Macael marble in its projects, such as the residential units of the Villa Mediterranea El Toyo, with 75000 sq metres of tiles of Blanco Macael, and another 38000 sq metres of steps, partitions, also of Blanco Macael.

AWARD FOR PROJECT REALISED OUTSIDE SPAIN

Project: Mansion Hotel-Cap Estel, Nice (France), built by Marbrerie Azureenne.
Materials used: steps, cornices, and moulds in Blanco Macael. 6000 sq metres of flooring have been used, the chimneys in Blanco Macael are of the style Luis XVI, the bathrooms are cladded in Crema and Blanco Macael, and the terraces are delimited with 440 balustrade and columns of 6 metres height in the entrance and hall.

AWARD FOR THE CRAFTSMANSHIP PROJECT

In this edition it was decided to share the award between the following projects:

1. Monolitos in Roquetas de Mar, composed of two twin monuments realized in Blanco Macael, 260 tons of blocks of marble were used, they have an height of 20 metres, with a base in the form of a circumference of 1,60 metres.
Stone supplier: Cuéllar, Arquitectura del Mármol.

2. Fountain of Mar de Adra. It is a marble pool of 12 metres diameter, integrated with a platform of 8 metres diameter with three sails of 10 metres. The project was done in Blanco Macael.

AWARD TO THE PROJECT WITH DESIGN

Project: Portobello Hotel, Roquetas de Mar (Almería)
Materials used: this project is an authentic example of design and combination of marble, achieving an optimum relationship of functionality/ beauty. 800 sq metres of yellow marble have been used in the wall cladding in 20 cm thickness with different finishes, 1000 lineal metres of yellow marble in the staircases, 6000 square metres also of yellow in the bathrooms and 1000 sq metres of green in the flooring of the lobby and the cafeteria.
