Q: “Marchetti is a historic company in the Italian industry. What do you feel when you think of carrying on the name of the family?”
A: “I feel what I have always felt since I was only 22 when I found myself out of nowhere as the new CEO in place of my mother: a sense of duty and a desire to do better. I am happy that after so many successes and crises, Marchetti is still a point of reference in the Italian industry and that now we look to the future with ambition and new projects.”
Q: “A future as Chief Innovation Officer. Why this choice?”
A: "I held the role of CEO for 34 years, I have faced many challenges and I have seen generations pass, many employees retired, travelled the world and now a new challenge arrives.”
Q: “Have you ever thought about retiring after all these years?”
A: "Absolutely not, I would not be able to stay without working and away from the company.”
Q: “Can you better describe your new role in Marchetti Company?”
A: “The role of the Chief Innovation Officer is to create new working groups, with which to develop new products and strategies to achieve objectives different from those of today. It is a less administrative and very creative role than before. I want to be at the forefront on the field to lead Marchetti towards the challenges of the future.”
Q: “How do you plan to do it?”
A: “First of all, let's start from the team, my idea is to give space to young people. My commitment from the beginning is to create a team that can bring new energy to the company, that knows how to read the great changes of our time in advance and can make them turn to the advantage of our projects.”
Q: “Do you believe so much in young people? Some say they have no experience.”
A: “Experience is certainly important, that's why we want to have the right mix in our team. Our goal is to improve things, bring innovation to the market, also products that have existed for years with a different interpretation. We want to add value, we need to be daring and invest in our research and development department. Giving a voice to young people means living our time, innovations are made by the new generations. When our young managers and collaborators have created projects, they will pass through the scrutiny of experienced people to assess their feasibility.”
Q: “Is it true that there are also her children in the company? What is their role?”
A: “At the moment, the role of my children is like they are observers. They are my advisors, they are still very young and have many ideas, which they will perhaps realize in the company or by making investments in other sectors.”
Q: “What are the changes it has implemented?”
A: “We certainly start from the working method; we go out of the box. The new team will have new workspaces, methods and schedules. We have to break down the walls, close with certain convictions, with the repetition of useless meetings and reports that are useless. Giving space to expression means getting rid of the beliefs that lead us to always see things with the same eyes. By changing the perspective of our gaze, we will also change the way we do business, emerging as winners from the many challenges we face.”
Q: “Can you tell us about the projects that have given you satisfaction? And what new projects are on the horizon, which can have a positive impact on the stone industry?”
A: “We had great success thanks to the system created with EHWA, through which we created an innovative cutting system with a diamond blade. The system was adopted by BM OFFICINE which created a gangsaw that has reached very high-performance levels. For this system we have the tensioner ready for cutting 12 mm sheets. Another important project is the tensioner that allows you to cut marble slabs 8-6 mm thick. Reduce the thickness to make natural stone sustainable! The latest surprise is the graphene paint we use to replace the galvanizing process. We use the GRAFY-COATING product that can be used in our industry to protect cranes, machinery, polishers, multiwire frames and all those machineries that work in contact with flocculants and salt-rich water that permanently damages machinery. The paint can also be used for maintenance that can mitigate and slow down the signs of corrosion that cost the industry millions of dollars.”
