The lady who loves you
That lady-how much she loves you! She follows you everywhere. In fact, wherever you go, almost always she is already there, before you. And if she is not there before already, she arrives soon, too soon. You do not like her. In fact, you hate her. You want to get rid of her. You do not know how. In public you have to maintain the appearances and be polite to her and smile to her and pretend everything is fine. Inside, though, you are boiling, and have an almost irresistible urge to stab her and kill her. But you cannot do that, of course.
She never keeps her word. When, in a fellow gathering, you agree to something, she goes back on her word almost immediately, and does the opposite of what she said she would do. You find it so frustrating, you get angry, she is causing you great harm, but you feel so helpless.
Every day in the morning, you wake up a happy person, determined to have a pleasant day. Yet, you have barely settled down in your office to begin your day of work and, almost the first thing you hear about is her latest gimmick, her latest act of treachery, her latest despicable act. The whole day is ruined, totally ruined!
You get desperate. You run far away, to strange lands, among strange people and strange customs, for the sole purpose of getting away from her. You look around, and do not see her. At last, you say, some peace of mind! Thank God! But no, you cannot figure out how, because you never told anyone where you went, she, somehow, finds out where you are. And she is soon there too, almost immediately. Your small secret is out. You escape again-to somewhere else, to another, strange, far away land, with strange languages, customs and food habits, and bad weather to boot. You hate the place. You are miserable there. You want to go back home. But at least she is not here, and that itself compensates for everything. But you know what? Somehow, she must have some supernatural powers, she once again founds out where you are. And, unbelievably, despite your being in the most difficult, inhospitable terrain, she follows you there too. She really loves you!
You have dreamt about her in your nightmares, you have smiled in your sleep imagining her screams as you strangle her. If there is anything that makes you angry, and raises your blood pressure, it is the mention of her. There is not a day in your life when you have not thought of her.
She is your alter-ego. She makes you work harder than ever. She makes you determined to do things you never imagined you would do, just to get rid of her. She makes you inventive, creative. She makes you ambitious. She makes you take huge risks in life which, in normal circumstances, you would probably never have assumed. She also makes you accomplish great things in life. You would never, never, never be the person you are, without her. Do you know who she is? Of course, you do! She is your-competition!
